Wilderness Resort, Here We Come!

Hello all!

Welcome to the ALL NEW MadCAP Performance Ensemble blog! This is a great place for you to reply to posts, chat with your friends from MadCAP, and find out about all the latest news.

MadCAP Senior Performance Ensemble has maintained a blog for the last year or so, and it is really a fun thing to log on and find out what's new with everyone at MadCAP. It's also useful to find out the latest on upcoming special events and trips! "What special events?" you may ask...well, we've been invited to perform in Baraboo as part of a fundraising effort to keep the Baraboo Boys and Girls Club a viable option in that community. Organizers are currently looking into booking us to perform at the Al Ringling Theatre in Baraboo!

While we're up in the area, MadCAP creative masterminds Joan McCarthy, Kjerstie Johanson, and Paul Milisch are hard at work planning a wonderful weekend at the Wilderness Resort for all performance ensembles and families! Registration paperwork and fees will be forthcoming, but it is shaping up to be a very exciting weekend.
Last year, MadCAP Senior Performance Ensemble took the first ever performance tour, and we had such a great time, I can't wait to go on the road with all of the MadCAP kids! It's going to be great, and I hope you all have a wonderful time!

Evy signing out from a great summer

Hello all,
I just wanted to post a BIG THANK YOU to all the groups at MadCAP I worked with this summer. I am off for maternity reasons for a while and I will miss you all terribly. This summer has been great.

Thanks to the 8 marvelous actors in All the world's an Opera stage. Things went so fast I never got to post on how it was a going. I had a great time turning a serious work of art like the RIng Cycle into 15 minutes of pure silliness. Thanks. I will most likely be singing ring of fire for the rest of the summer and I will always hear your "mean" voices singing it.

Princess and The Pea was awesome. The performances went so well. I am extremely proud of everyone. I have been getting complements from the MadCAP staff for the show and the complements should all go to the cast which was so enthusiastic and ready to do all sorts of bizarre things (like dance with a cake) in order to have fun and entertain the audience.

Two Gentlemen of Verona was so funny and beautiful that it made me cry during both performances. I wish more people had seen it. It was just marvelous. I enjoyed working with the 10 actors so much. Everybody challenged and stretched themselves. It was a great honor to be part of that process. I would love to work with all of you again next summer in Metal Macbeth!!!!

I also was impressed by the shows I saw this summer - Yay Magical Land of Oz, Charleston, No Strings Attached, and Seusical.

MadCAP will be in my thoughts while I am away and I will continue to come and see shows and root for all of you.

Princess and the Pea is bouncing along

We have been very busy and doing lots of bounces in place for the choreography not to mention big dramatic hand swwops. Monday we had auditions all morning long and the group was so good it made it very difficult to cast. Brigid and I changed and rearranged the casting severall different tiimes. I hope everyone is proud of their work on monday because everyone had very strong auditions. I thank everybody for their energy on Monday. This morning the cast was announced and I have never worked with a group this age that was so enthusiastic about their parts as soon as they were announced. I was very pleased with how everyone excepted their roles and went on to have a lot of fun being super cheesey and silly during the blocking rehearsal. We are half way through the play and learned 3 big group numbers today. They look and sound great!!! I am so excited to continue working with all the fabulous actors in this group. We should finish the show by Thursday morning and then we will be reviewing on thursday and Friday. We are in great shape and we have only just begun. WOOOHOOOOO

The weekend is upon us.

Happy weekend to the whole cast of Two Gentlemen of Verona. Rehearsals have been just fabulous this week!!!!! Everyone has worked very hard. Monday we will start working in the theater. Please come and help with load in on Saturday (at Edgewood Starting at 10am) and on Sunday at the Bartell. Monday is also offical offbook day. I have been very impressed with how well everyone has been learning their lines - so I am confident that Monday will be a great off book rehearsal. Please also try to bring your patience on monday since it is the only rehearsal that the lighting designer will get so we all must be patient for him.

I am so proud of how the show is going. Thank you Thank you Thank you to you all.
Hello Magical Land of Oz!

We've had a really busy week. Our mornings are all packed with rehearsing various aspects of the Magical Land of Oz. So far we've learned all of the songs, Allison has taught you all of the choreography, and Katie has blocked the entire show-- You should all be very proud of yourselves. The reheasals have been long and tiring for you but I think your parents and friends will be really happy to watch the result.

After dining on the Capital lawn we return to MadCAP for Technique Classes with Miss Kathryn, Greg and some special guests: Joan McCarthy (who is also the director of MadCAP) came in to talk about costumes, and Paul came in today to talk to you about Set Design and Props. There will be more guests next week and lots more activities that Miss Kathryn and Greg have planned so LOTS to look forward to.

Next week we will start out at MadCAP but walk over to the Bartell Theatre to start rehearsing on stage. We only have 2 hours there a day so we're going to have to work hard, but you guys are definately up to the challenge! After rehearsing there for a couple hours we'll walk back to MadCAP and finish our rehearsal upstairs in the Center Room where we rehearsed all this week.

I'm looking forward to next weeks rehearsal--make sure to listen to your cds, memorize all of your words and come ready to work hard and have lots of fun!!

Charleston! and that "madcap flapper, Pretty Polly Pepper"

Magical Land of Oz in rehearsal!

From the Shakespeare rehearsal studio...

Hi - Two Gentlemen of Verona enters its final week going strong. In the first two days we blocked the ENTIRE SHOW!!!! And now we have gone over all the scenes multiple times, polishing and experimenting with different ways of approaching the text.

I am having so much fun with this enthusiastic cast. Everyone is willing to try new things and stretch themselves as far as they possibly can. Thanks for all your energy and patience with me as I try to function with out coffee.

Next week we start dress rehearsals and will continue to work on individual scenes before and after our rehearsals in the theater.

I am very excited about the show. The acting rocks, the costumes rock, and the trees - well they must be seen!!!!

Summer programs have started!

Starting off with a bang, the Shakespeare production begins rehearsals with improvisational activities led by Evy.

Of course our studios smell a little like wet paint as we are creating set and props during our rehearsal time frame!

The musical theatre group gets plenty of movement in rehearsals warming up with Choreographer Allison.
Katie directs the "Magical Land of Oz" group in movement and warm up.

In the afternoons, students from "The Magical Land of Oz" have techniques classes with Greg and Miss Kathryn.
Keep your eye on the blog for posts from our artist and intern staff. There is so much happening here at MadCAP and we'll have reports of everything right here!
Thanks for reading!

Lots of exciting things coming up this summer!

We've got so much planned! Hope to see each of you at a show this summer...maybe even more than one! Adventures with princesses and princes, a whale, Pinocchio, flappers, and OZ!
Plus, don't miss the excitement of ONE NIGHT ONLY a special concert presentation (with desserts) of our Senior Performance Ensemble.

Thank you for such wonderful performances last Friday!

I enjoyed watching all of you perform, especially the "Bye Bye Birdie" choral review because I'd never seen it before! All of you did such an amazing job, and I thank each of you for working so hard towards this performance goal.

Looking ahead, we've got some very exciting things lined up for 2007-2008! We'll be producing a concert performance of all three groups (including a "mass ensemble" piece featuring ALL OF THE ENSEMBLES!), several Bartell performances, and more fun and social activities. Senior Ensemble students are working on hosting a planning weekend/family camping trip for the Junior and Intermediate Ensemble students registered for next year, so get those registration forms in right away! :)

Photos from the performance can be found at http://www.kodakgallery.com/BrowsePhotos.jsp?&collid=11802879805.933395068405.1174662194667&page=1 for your viewing pleasure.

Looking forward to seeing you all this summer! (www.madcap.org for more information about registering for summer activities)

At special request...welcome to your blog!

In talking with some of the students in Junior and Intermediate Ensembles, the request for a blog came up. Senior Performance Ensemble has a blog http://www.madcapseniorensemble.blogspot.com and the other students wanted one, too.

This blog is for students in ALL MadCAP Performance Ensembles and will feature photos from our rehearsals and performances.

It's also a great place to post things for the entire group to see (exciting announcements, artwork you've made, etc). I will be moderating this blog for now, so if you have something you'd like to see posted, please e-mail me and I'll post it.

Thanks!
